Keeping fit and healthy is vital for a long and happy life. When you’re healthy and fit you feel better and look better and there are several health fitness tips to follow in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Drink water

Drinking water is really important for a healthy lifestyle. Experts say you should aim to drink around eight glasses of water a day. If you struggle to fit that in during a day then it will help to set up a routine. For example, you could have a glass with breakfast, a glass mid morning, two glasses with lunch, a glass mid afternoon, two glasses with dinner and a glass before bed. Make a note each time you have a glass so you can keep track.

For those people wanting to lose weight, drinking water is key. If you drink a glass of water before you eat it will help suppress your appetite so you won’t eat as much. Also, often thirst is mistaken for hunger. Next time you feel peckish drink a glass of water before you have a snack and see if it makes a difference.

Work out three times a week

Exercise is great not only for losing weight and toning up but also for lifting your mood. Studies have shown that exercise can help alleviate depression so aim to work out two or three times a week. This can be swimming, aerobics or a run but make sure it is cardiovascular.

Eat five a day

For some time now experts have been advising us to eat five fruit and vegetable portions a day and, despite what some people may think, it’s not actually that hard to do. Try having some fruit with breakfast, a salad for lunch, two portions of vegetables with dinner and a fruit juice during the day.

Avoid cigarettes and alcohol

It’s no surprise anymore that cigarettes and alcohol are not good for you. Cigarettes can cause cancer amongst other things and alcohol can cause a whole host of problems. It is therefore advisable to avoid these. If you must have alcohol avoid binge drinking, set a limit and stick to it and make sure you have at least three or four days a week without having a drink.

Get your calcium

Calcium is vital for healthy bones and is especially important for women who are at risk of osteoporosis in later life. Make sure you have milk or other sources of calcium. like green vegetables, as often as possible. If this isn’t possible then you can buy calcium supplements at most health stores.

Have a varied diet

For a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle make sure you vary your diet and have a mix of carbohydrates, proteins and vegetables.
